I’ve been sitting on this picture for a bit now.

The more I look at it, the more I realise it is as much as the subject as it is about the setting itself, the city of London.

It’s coming to a decade now since I moved in to this city and called it home, and my once fierce love for it has matured into a more complex relationship. London is sheer potential, huge and quirky, polarising, ancient and yet constantly changing. This city has given me so much -the chance to chase my shape-shifting dreams-, and yet it demands just as much as I’m daily reminded of from the window of a commuter train, rubbing each other’s shoulders, providing, paying the bills, searching for my definition of "making it". Kate Tempest’s "Perfect Coffee" song brilliantly conveys the nuances of this relationship. Her music and poetry is worth your time. I still love this city, but time just made me more aware of what the deal is.

And yet there’s beauty to be found, a worthy struggle to pause and observe, stories and gazes to be captured in the people that I’ve met, such as that of Alba, a Londoner like me, and the city behind her.
