And Londoners flung open their doors, dug out their boots and mittens and long forgotten sleds from the back of the shed, and came out to frolic in the snow.
Greenwich park was transformed into a sledding, sliding, snowball fighting, snowman-building free-for-all.
By late afternoon, it was all gone again, and London went back to whatever it was doing before.
