London – The Ever Changing (Explored)

\"London

Another shot taken back in 2007. Funny, how a monochrome conversion can turn dull image into an interesting one. In this shot I find the contrast between the old and traditional London and the modern one most striking. I tried to bring this impression out by deliberately (de)accentuating the brightness of certain building, most notably the Tower of London and the "Gherkin" (this is what the egg shaped shaped glass skyscraper is called by the Londoners).
I also find it very striking that besides the much taller modern buildings, the old ones still stand out. They have a beauty and elegance on of their own that can’t be rivaled by glass and steel.

This image has been a long time coming. I have worked on it for months, very often only for a few clicks per day, until I finally felt I had it right. You, of course, should feel free to come to your own judgement nonetheless. I am looking forward to reading what you think about this image in the comments.

Please view this image in the lightbox. It really looks better this way.

Enjoy!
