My Exciting Journey to London: Embracing the Tourist Experience
Recently, I embarked on my inaugural adventure to the vibrant city of London, equipped with a comprehensive list of must-see attractions. My itinerary included classic experiences such as indulging in gourmet delights at Borough Market and marveling at the grandeur of Big Ben. Each moment spent during my three-day escapade in this iconic metropolis was deeply fulfilling.
As an avid traveler, visiting London has always been on my wish list. However, until now, circumstances hadn’t allowed for it. The desire to explore this famed city urged me to arrange a solo trip filled with iconic activities like taking photos in front of Big Ben and enjoying a guided tour of Tower Bridge. Although I wished for family company—my husband’s hectic work schedule and my teenagers’ busy lives made that impossible—it became clear that if I didn’t make this solo journey happen soon, I’d be waiting far too long.
I meticulously crafted a plan outlining various landmarks and hidden gems I aimed to discover—such as sampling traditional fare in local pubs and searching fashionable quilted jackets in Notting Hill. With flight tickets secured and accommodation booked, it was finally time to start packing.
Initial Impressions: Immersed in Touristy Activities

Pursuing activities like capturing memories inside iconic red phone booths or hopping onto double-decker buses felt almost obligatory; however, I also sought unique experiences beyond typical tourism hotspots. To achieve this balance, I set two ground rules: no dining at chain restaurants and opting out of expensive tours by exploring independently through leisurely strolls across the cityscape.
I opted for lodging situated in Stratford due to its convenient access close to a prominent tube station as well as proximity to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park—home base for many events during the 2012 Games. My first day revolved around thorough exploration within Olympic Park; after savoring lunch onsite, delving into impressive bass swimming pools featured prominently in international competitions added further excitement.
Savoring Culinary Delights: Indian Cuisine & Unique Shopping Experiences
Indian cuisine has always been at the top of my list, and when I mentioned my upcoming trip to London to friends, they enthusiastically encouraged me to indulge in the Indian dishes there. “Curry in the UK is a whole new experience,” one exclaimed. They were spot on. My journey began on Brick Lane, known for its plethora of curry houses, and it felt incredibly liberating to venture out alone in a different city for dinner while soaking up the vibrant atmosphere.
In addition to sampling local Indian delicacies, I had other attractions lined up such as visiting Big Ben, exploring the boutiques of Notting Hill, and treating myself to TikTok’s trending chocolate-covered strawberries from Borough Market. Having a checklist before my trip proved beneficial; my prior research undoubtedly enriched my experience.
British Pubs: A Must-Experience Even Without Alcohol
Having abstained from alcohol for over a year now didn’t deter me from experiencing British pubs since they hold such an iconic status in London’s culture. To my delight, I discovered that these pubs offered an impressive selection of non-alcoholic beers comparable to what one might find in American establishments. I could easily stroll up and order an alcohol-free brew while immersing myself into the lively ambience around me.
Indeed, British pubs live up to their exhilarating reputation! Observing groups gather together in bustling beer gardens filled with laughter and cheer was truly delightful. Some pubs featured engaging live music events while others boasted DJs spinning tracks into the night. Each pub bristled with energy—vivacious hubs that were integral components of local life—as depicted so vividly in all those novels I’ve admired over time. Experiencing this cultural hotspot firsthand felt incredibly rewarding regardless of sobriety.

Experiencing the Iconic Landmarks of London
During my recent visit to London, I eagerly checked several must-see attractions off my list. From the iconic Tower Bridge to snapping pictures in front of the historic Big Ben, each stop felt like a page torn from a travel guide. Growing up watching Princess Diana’s funeral with my mother and hearing countless stories about the Royal Family made wandering these streets a surreal journey; faces and places previously confined to television became tangible experiences.
The Thrill of Unexpected Performances
A standout moment for me was attending ABBA Voyage, an innovative concert where advanced technology presents holograms of the legendary band as their younger selves. While it was undoubtedly a remarkable spectacle, I soon discovered that I wasn’t as devoted an ABBA fan as many in the audience. Surrounded by enthusiastic fans decked out in sparkling outfits passionately singing along to classics like “Mamma Mia,” I realized how deeply rooted their love for this music was within British culture.
Anticipating My Next Visit
Reflecting on this adventure makes me eager for future explorations in London. Each visit unveils new facets of this vibrant city that are waiting to be discovered.

Not only did this trip satisfy many curiosities about London’s rich history and culture — from visiting iconic landmarks like Big Ben and Buckingham Palace — but it also ignited an insatiable desire in me for further discovery.
