Environmental enthusiasts were joined by many of those on the fringe of the
environmental issues at a panel discussion at the Wolf Performance Hall,
London, Canada to learn about 350.org, Climiate Change and Activism in
London and Beyond. Attendees heard from Maryanne MacDonald, a local activist
with Waste Free World.org, Jay Stanford, Director of Environmental Programs
& Solid Waste, City of London and Sara Seck, Professor of Law at the
University of Western Ontario. The overriding message was the same: we are
full steam ahead to irreversibly damaging our planet with rising levels of
CO2 in our atmosphere. We could be sustainable at 350 ppm but already we are
at 389. What needs to be done to take the steam out of this locomotive? All
nations need to go on a low carbon diet and stop stoking this CO2 engine.
Individuals, businesses and government all have to do their part. Canadians
indeed Londoners have an opportunity to engineer and conduct the way.
